Unfortunately, due to current circumstances, COYC are not able to support this event by delivering pickers and sacks, and in line with Government guidance we would not want to proceed with the refreshments side of things at the Village Hall. The event is therefore cancelled.
However, if you wish to undertake your own mini tidy up outside your property, on your street, or elsewhere, on this, or any other, date, please feel free to do so. Your neighbours, and the environment, thank you!
The 2020 Big Village Spring Clean will take place on Saturday 21st March from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.
Please join us to help make Naburn as spick and span as possible for the forthcoming spring and summer. Many hands make light work and volunteers of all ages are welcome and useful. Children, too, though they must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult, please. You'll be joining thousands of people all round the country who'll be involved in the nationwide Great British Spring Clean initiative.
We shall meet at the Village Hall at 10 a.m. for a hot drink and a homemade snack and then head out with friends, family and neighbours to make your allocated corner of our village even more beautiful.
Discarded litter will be our main target but there'll probably also be a bit of weeding and general tidying up around the village.
Bin bags and litter pickers are provided by City of York Council but please bring along your own brooms, buckets, wheelbarrows etc., and make sure to wear suitable gloves, clothing and footwear.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Great British Spring Clean guidance
The aim of the Great British Spring Clean is for communities to come together, clean up their local environment and have fun, which of course means staying safe at all times.
Given the UK Chief Medical Officers have now raised the coronavirus (COVID-19) risk to the UK from moderate to high, its only sensible that volunteers engaging in the Great British Spring Clean take extra hygiene precautions to prevent the spread of this, or any other, preventable illness.
Do not attend a clean-up if you feel unwell or are showing cold or flu like symptoms, stay home to protect yourself and others.
Keep Britain Tidy asks that you undertake your clean-up events in line with the advice being issued by Public Health England (PHE). In particular, participants are asked to use the following guidelines:
Wear gloves during the clean-up at all times
Wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds before and after your event
Event organisers are advised to provide hand sanitiser for participants where possible or sign post to accessible hand washing facilities
Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects, such as litter pickers, using your regular cleaning products
Stay at least 2 metres (about 3 steps) away from other people whenever possible
Being part of the Great British Spring Clean is a wonderful way to show you care about your local environment but to have fun, as well as to make a difference, it is important to stay safe and take these simple precautions to make your event a success.
We will continue to monitor Government announcements and update our advice on this page as the situation evolves.
